When formaldehyde is present in the air at levels exceeding 0.1 ppm, some individuals may experience adverse effects such as watery eyes; burning sensations in the eyes, nose, and throat; coughing; wheezing; nausea; and skin irritation. Recent studies also indicate an ALS risk or other nervous system consequences. Formaldehyde is a respiratory irritant that causes chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing, and nose and throat irritation, according to the ATSDR. It can also cause cancer, and has been linked to an increased risk of asthma and allergies in children. The EPA describes formaldehyde as a likely carcinogen, but a new report is expected to update previous findings and provide more detail on formaldehyde’s link to leukemia. Regulators historically have determined that less than 0.1 ppm free formaldehyde is an acceptable level for exposure. MCTRON Technologies MaxxLink® products have the lowest free formaldehyde levels of any waterproofing resin sold in the marketplace and takes pride in certifying all MaxxLink batches sold.
